I gave my friend a vcd I made that plays just fine on my computer. We use the same programs to play movies on (like windvd & windows media player) and have the exact same computers that are relatively new.

My husband took another vcd to work, again with absolutley NO problem playing on our computer or DVD player, and it won't play on that one either. They have windvd.

I wouldn't think it has to do with the fact that since I am the one authoring them on My computer, that it has something to do with programs i have being affected by the codecs i have to do so. I would think that has no relevance at all. It's an mpeg compliant vcd. If someone knows that it DOES matter, I would like to know so I can label them with the codec I needed to encode them. That way I can tell them they need so and so to watch it. That just doesn't make sense to me. It shouldn't matter.

    Youn need MPEG2 decoder installed.
Elecard MPEG2 Player comes with MPEG2 Decoder and make available to watch SVCD movies with any DirectShow - based player, say with MediaPlayer

    ftp://ftp.elecard.com/pub/mpeg/player/EMpgPlay_135.zip

But, I only author and burn mpeg 1 because most stand-alones will atleast play vcd. Mine doesn't play svcd, so I don't make anything else but mpeg 1 VCD's.

Do I still need to tell them to get the mpeg 2 decoder? If not, do you have any other ideas on why my PC will play my movies, but my friend's exact same PC won't play them? Does it lie in the codecs and decoders I have to convert them in the first place, so that is why mine will play them? Is that even relevant to the problem?

    Thanks for any help!

He said that when he put in the disc, it would open up a window with the files. I asked him if he just closed that out and opened windvd, because that's what i did, and it would start playing the movie. He said he tried that and it would not play. So, he finally dug out his old dvd player to watch it after he tried everything he could think of to get the movie to play.

    Thanks for helping me!
