    it's only decoding support so little will change at the moment; if it was encoder support that would be a game changer and would probably be the first step in the average users moving way from all legacy encoding standard, including mpeg2, asp and avc.

    What I don't understand is why the libvpx vp9 encoder is in these builds.

    I only found ffmpeg build that have the vp9 encoder here, but every single time I tried to encode it failed with an error or outputted nothing.

    Is there even a single vp9 encoder available on the web? I didn't even find a libvpx command line encoder.

    FFMPEG 2.1 cannot mux hevc elementary streams to MKV nor to MP4.

    It can wrap hevc in AVI though --- however it miscalculates the duration of the video.
