  1. I am trying to convert an avi file to mpeg using TMPGEnc. When I click start, I get the message 'An error occurred when audio was decoded.' What happened and what can I do to fix the problem? Detailed suggestions are welcomed.

Have you split the audio from the video or are you using the same source file?

Then you should de-mux (split) the source file and see if the seperation helps you.

  4. I split the audio into a .wav file (using Virtual Dub) and was successful in converting to a mpeg file. However, the audio was out of sync with the video. Could there be something wrong with my copy of TMPGEnc?

This problem has been reported here a few times. Some people just don't seem to be lucky with TMPGEnc. What most people recommend is using TMPGEnc to demux your mpeg and then re-muxing it back together again with BBMPEG.

  6. So I have to split the audio and video again, this time using TMPGEnc. And then put them together again, using BBMPEG. I am not familiar with BBMPEG. Where is a good place to read how to use BBMPEG? And how long does it take to re-mux with BBMPEG? The size of the MPEG file is about a gig.
And is there just a chance this will correct the problem or is success likely?
And if this is a common problem using TMPGEnc, should I be using something else. The thing is I don't know if this is TMPGEnc causing this problem or the original source file.

As I somehow have been lucky with my captures and conversions I have never had this unsync problem myself. I don't use BBMPEG but you can get info via the website
http://members.home.net/beyeler/bbmpeg.html it has a Q&A section and also there is more help via the BBMPEG forum at
    http://www.delphi.com/bbMPEG_UG .

Normally the demux takes about the same time as muxing, if there are variances they are hardly noticeable. As for the success rate - it's often been reported as being successful.

You asked if this was a common problem in TMPGEnc - hmmm, some have it - some don't. If it's the software itself, the version, the time of day or night they encode - I honestly can't say <grin>

  8. Okay there is a little programme U can download that will resync the audio with the video on an avi file bugger me if I can tell U what it is like but maybe one of the members may know. I've just had a similar problem converting a dvix file so this is what I done!!!

I reconverted the avi using virtualdub into a dvix file compressing the audio to mp3 layer 2 & the video into mpeg4 fast motion & once all that was done I used Tmpeg to convert it... Hey presto the file was converted & working perfectly & its now a nice copy of disk 1 to cats & dogs. I hope this will work for U.

  10. Hi Kev,.
Can you please please define what you do exactly with the AVI/ DivX\?
You Say:I reconverted the avi using virtualdub into a dvix file compressing the audio to mp3 layer 2 & the video into mpeg4 fast motion & once all that was done I used Tmpeg to convert it...

How do you do all that in VDub? When you convert this into a VCD, sych is still good?

    Thanks for your help

  11. okay U need to go to file on Vdub & open your selected file then onto video & select compression & choose mpg4 low motion or fast motion. Now go to audio & select compression & then choose mp3 lay 3 audio. Now U can save your file. By the way make sure U have the mpg 4 codecs loaded, U can get the from http://www.doom9.net. once U have converted to dvix U can shove that avi into tmpeg by loading the video, U obvioulsy know how to do that & then U can can use whatever template U want. Now start it off & your finished product will be a compliant Mpg.

    Kev!
