Hello, I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone had come across a problem I've just encountered with Final Cut Express. I've been using it without problems to convert and edit .mts AVCHD files from my camcorder, but today for the first time it crashed when I clicked on Log & Transfer.

By a process of elimination, I think it's something to do with this specific set of files on an SD card. I've copied the folders onto my hard drive and a back-up drive, and tried Log & Transfer, directing FCE to those locations, but it still crashes, so I don't think it's a problem with the SD card.

It's not a general fault with my copy of FCE as I can open other files on other SD cards without problems.

I can convert the files using a third-party application and then use them in FCE, but this is really time consuming and could result in a loss of quality. And it doesn't resolve the problem of why I can't import the files on this SD card in the normal way.

The card has recently been used in a stills camera. Not sure if this is relevant. It has other folders on it, created by the stills camera, but again this has never been a problem in the past.

The SD card itself seems fine. The video clips play back on the camcorder as normal, and the mts files can be played on a PC (Windows Media Player), so I don't think they're generally corrupted.

For some reason, every time I point FCE at these files (whether on the card or hard drive), it just crashes.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks very much indeed.
