  1. I have some basketball footage I recorded and would like to somehow super impose flames on the basketball.

Any idea how to do this in Sony Vegas? Is there a way to do it with Vegas itself or do I need some stock flame footage, like a fireball to place over the basketball whenever it's passed?

    Any help appreciated!

  2. You need something like Particle Illusion (plugin for Vegas Pro)

  3. Thanks for the tip!

I have managed to download a matte alpha fireball effect clip. I can put it on a video track above my footage.

I have been using the track motion option to resize the fireball and key frame it.

Quick question, for every fireball clip that I want to add, do I need to put it on a separate track? Does track motion apply the changes to the whole track?

Is there a way to move and resize multiple clips on the same track?

If there is a multiple instance of the fireball in the same set of frames, yes you have to add it via a new track. Otherwise, if it shows up solo at different times, then you can just use the same track.

Track Motion is keyframeable, so YOU decide where and when it is active. So yes, it does affect the whole track, and no it doesn't.

You can move a selection of clips using "Grouping". You can resize a group of clips using "Paste Event Attributes", assuming "resize" involves the crop tool. Terms like "resize" are too vague to give a definitive answer.

Particle Illusion is still somewhat viable, but for the same money you can get the Boris Particles plugin. Either way, you would probably use they whole 30 day trial just to get familiar enough to actually make something. Flames are hard to reproduce via CGI.

You're better off using real flames you film yourself, like a campfire. I have some of those if you want. I'll attach here later.

Here you go: http://files.videohelp.com/u/135518/FireBall.m2t. Just pick out the few frames that look best and create a subclip and loop it.
