I did a search in the DVD players section for players that play DVD-RW's. One of the listed players is the Pioneer DV-343.
I went to Best Buy to check it out but it woulden't play my DVD-RW. So I have two questions:

    1. Why is it listed as playing DVD-RW in the players section?

    2. Is there any way to modify a DVD player to play these discs (change the player with a computer DVD-ROM drive)?

Being as how the DVD-R (general) discs run about $10, I'd like to check my projects on a DVD-RW first.

  2. Forget DVD-RW only that Pinoeer can handle them.
Provided you encode the DVD-RW correctly.

DVD+RW burners are popping up soon.
DVD+RW (and DVD+R) is virtually identical to pressed/standard DVD's. You can play DVD+RW & DVD+R in all existing DVD players. The downside is that the first DVD+RW and DVD+R disc will only be singlelayer and singlesided. But that's still um 4.6 GB of space. And 2 sided should appear later giving you around twice that space.
Doublelayerd will never happen since these are glued together at the DVD plants.
DVD+RW & DVD+R can also be used as DVD-ROM in all existing DVD drivers as well.
Stay away from DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RAM and whatever else if you can.

My DVD of the movie Dune is single sided and single layer. it has 5.1 Dolby Digital sound and over 2 hours of film. (no extras tough) so you can put a 2hr movie on a singlesided singlelayer DVD+R (R's are cheaper than RW's obviously
and be sure that all DVD players in compuyters or standalone can play them. Just make sure you have a goo DVD authoring software and a DVD burner than can burn DVD+RW and DVD+R.

    Regards...

    Thanks,
But that dosen't answer either of my questions.

I already have the Pioneer A-103 so I'm not looking for a DVD burner.

I'm looking for a way to play my DVD-RW disc's on a set top player..

My Local Sams club has two pallets full of APEX 660's.

In a way, sometimes off brand DVD players will play more media types.

I guess since their off brand, they need to pack features.
