Hello to everyone
I have a couple of dvds that don't work correctly, there are errors and some glitch in the video (fast forward problems, footage that skip parts etc.) so I want to re-author them with no loss of quality.
First, I need to take the footage and fix it, or demuxing and re-muxing again audio and video (the best software available for windows)
Then I want to create a new dvd with the fixed footage, nothing special, just add chapters and that's it, the most important thing is that there's not loss of any quality (even if I analyze and compare the two sourcers: they must be the same under any circumstance)
Thanks in advance, hope that someone will help me.![]()

The issues may be a bad disk.
None of the steps I suggest will lose any quality. Need to test these first. -
Then why confuse the matter by not stating that in the first place ?
A simple remux will not work now. You will have to re-encode and lose some quality. -

1. Demux into audio and video (PGCDemux)
2. Create chapters (create a celltimes.txt by framecount)
3. Reauthor (Muxman, adding the celltimes.txt in File->Import Chapter).
4. Test.
5. If there are menus and such, stick the 'fixed' version back into the original (VobBlanker).
First, I need to take the footage and fix it...
(even if I analyze and compare the two sourcers: they must be the same under any circumstance) -
Thanks man that partially helps me on a question i've been wondering about. Ripping a dvd for the sole purpose of making a new menu, ie scene selections etc. Would the steps be?
1 - rip video_ts folder
2- no need to convert to mpeg2 just leave as vob?
3. make menu in avs to dvd
4. imgburn
Many thanks. -
and If I use dvd lab pro instead of muxman and avstodvd?
It has an automatic re-muxing option can can be used to fix errors
In this case I just take the vobs, put them in dvd lab pro 2, start checking the files and then author a new dvd
Just as information: the dvd that I want to re-author has not chapters, I want to add them manually -
If you want exact placement of the chapter points, use DVDLab Pro. If you don't mind chapters at regular time intervals you can use AVStoDVD.
I don't use muxman directly (AVStoDVD uses it), so I can't tell you about setting chapter points in it. -
You can set them exactly (on I-Frames, like any authoring program) or at set timing points (every five minutes, for example). But it's done by framecount. For example, if for PAL and if you want them every ten minutes, 25x60x10=15000, and the celltimes.txt file you create will look like this:
15000
30000
45000
60000
.
.
.
For NTSC it's 29.97 (30fps will be easier to work with).

The problem is that this dvd is a concert, and I can't create chapters every five or ten minutes, because some songs are longer than other ones :/
-
For many it's enough, but I already said you can create them wherever you like. You just have to be able to see the video and know the frame numbers. Me, I use AVISynth scripts opened in VDub for this. Or try one of the other suggestions, but just be sure your whole video doesn't get reencoded. Some authoring programs are very sneaky about that and will reencode whether you want to or not, or unless you check some box to prevent it from reencoding already compliant files.

DVDLab Pro won't re-encode. And it is easy to see where to place the chapter points on the time line.

Yes, I don't need a 100% perfect chapter points... just recognize a part of the footage when a song finish xD
