Hello, Im new to this forum and could really use some help on a specific problem that is throwing me for a loop.

I recently switched from the Sony NX5U camcorder to the Canon XA-20 camera. Both cameras record in AVCHD format. The video and audio opened up just fine on my PC as well as my editing software (Premier Pro Cs5)..

Now I have the canon xa-20 and I can open the video just fine but the audio doesn't play at all. Shows there is no audio when looking at the properties. Any clue why this is?? Any ideas or solutions to fix this?? I do know the audio is there as I watch it on my camera or on television and works just fine..

    Thanks for the help,

install the free mediainfo. open the xa20 file and put mediainfo into text mode and copy/paste the results here. it will tell us what format is in the file.

  4. aedipuss' suggestion will help identify if your audio is an incompatible or missing audio codec on your system.

Also try copying the complete folder structure from your cards into PPRo, rather than individual files.

Also, try using Panasonic's Data Import Utility as they suggest.

    What shows this? Premiere?

It's also not out of the question your version of Premiere is too old for this camera's implementation of AVCHD.

edit: cross posted with your mediainfo -- wow, that audio is as plain vanilla as it gets. There should be no problem playing that.

Try my earlier suggestion. Import the entire PRIVATE folder, not just the individual clips.

    Thank Ya,

My computer when you right click on the clip and go to properties/details no audio is given. Also same thing applies when importing into cs5. The film strip shows but the speaker is not on top of it like it should be. The nx5u avchd film and audio both worked fine. Im pretty sure it has something to do with my new mic. I did switch mics, but im so confused.
Ill try the panasonic deal. Even if my premier was out of date, my computer should still be able to play the video/audio just like it did on my NX5U.

  7. Import the entire PRIVATE folder, not just the individual clips. See if that makes a difference.

what's weird is that I have a couple clips that work fine and can hear them when i use the onboard mic. But when I try playing video that I had my other mic turned on it does not play the audio on the computer. This video/audio works just fine on tv and on camera, so I know it's there, but this has just threw me for a big loop! appreciate the help!
