What is the best way to take family DVD videos and put them on an external hard drive? Thank you so much,

Copy the video_ts folder straight to the drive. Place each in a separate folder such as
"Vacation 2007"
edit: A player like MPC-HC can play them as-is. -
Rip them to a format that is compatible with your media player. Lots of choices and advice in the ripping dvds section of the forum.
