  1. Hi guys, total newbie here. I'm trying to recover a video file. I undeleted it from a SD card and now have the unplayable file on my hard drive. I'd like to know if there is any actual data in the file or if it's just random. I've read that there is a way to check header information. Can anyone help me with this? I've had no luck so far. Thanks in advance!

No idea what format you have, but a program like VirtualDub or VD Mod has a 'Hex Editor'. It can look at the bottom level of a video file. If you are able to open the file and all you see is lots of zeros, there's likely no data there.

Header information may not help as that may survive a 'undelete', even if the file itself is gone.

I should also ask, 'What did you undelete it with?' Some programs don't do a very good job.

Also, if you haven't tried it, try playing the file with VLC Media Player. It can sometimes play corrupted files.

    And welcome to our forums.
