  1. Hi everybody,

I'm comparing different video capture devices I have here, and which produces the best result. I have capture the same video with a BT878 based card (Pinnacle PC TV) and with a EzCap DC60 USB stick.

I attached two frame-to-frame comparisons. In my opinion the EzCap give better results as far the video seems to show my details and is sharper. The BT878 gives in my opinion a slight blurry picture.

But on the EzCap capture, I get a fine vertical raster which is visible on the sunflowers for example.

Does anybody have an idea how to get ride of it (maybe by filtering) ? I tried neatvideo but it gives nothing good (I have to put settings on very aggressive filtering, and the image gets more blurry as the Bt878 cap).

Additionally, I attached here are some magnified extracts which shows the raster from which I'm talking about.

    Thanks a lot,

That is not the raster, that is moire and/or herringbone noise, unless I'm mistaken.

Herringbone noise... this is it. I didn't knew the term, but after having searched in the forum, it's definitely this.

The grabber is an Easycap DC60+ (genuine one, named so before they changed the name to EzCap due to massive counterfeit).

  4. to remove herringbone you have to use f1quiver such as this:

    F1Quiver(last, "gn", 336, 10, test=false) (you'd have to tweak it)

The herringbone pattern is present on high and mid frequencies on Y only according to neat (last image)

    edit:
    try this one:
    F1Quiver(last,"custom", 25, 100, 50, 35, 70,0, 80,90, 120,30,test =false,row = 155, erow=300,degree = 8,gamma =0.2 )

    And likely dot crawl, too.
EzCap/EasyCap = crap. Get a better capture card. ATI 600 USB is suggested.

  6. It's dot crawl for sure. The EZCap is not using a dot crawl filter. AFter you've filter out the dot crawl you will be left with a picture like the Pinnacle produces.

Thanks for the advice. I used the first line and after taking an hour to precisely understand the documentation, I ended up with :
    F1Quiver(last, "bn", 318, 16, test=true)

So the Butterwoth notch filter gave me some interesting results. I didn't set it too much sharp because some ringing begins to appear.

lordsmurf, do you mean the ATI TV Wonder 600 ? Are the results far better than the EzCap ? I may borrow an ATI TV Wonder USB2... already heard about it ?
