Hello!
Are there any good VFW/directshow -based video transcoder? (Not the virtual-dub)
Thank you for your reply!

as you might be aware the video for windows interface is considered deprecated, as such there are few vfw codecs, i think there are some builds of xvid and x264 but i think they are old builds, as well as a slightly older version of the divx asp encoder.
as for apps that can use vfw codecs, if the app supports exporting to avi it can usually use vfw, tmpg video mastering works will use vfw codecs, i'm almost sure sony's family of video editors support exporting to avi with vfw, i don't know about any others.
why do you want to use vfw anyway?Last edited by deadrats; 9th Oct 2013 at 09:57.

There exists AviUtl --- but I don't know whether you yourself will qualify it as "good enough"
Since you mentioned DirectShow... well, the old Mainconcept Reference does use its own DirectShow chain for both decoding and encoding. Therefore, sometimes it has minor problems when used together with Avisynth (ffdshow + makeAVIS usually is capable of forcing MCR to do the correct framecount).
