  1. The best solution is to get a wireless media player then stream from network shares.

Not sure of the need for wireless here. Why don't you pick up a 10/100 network hub (1 gig not required but helpful) and a WDTV Live+. You'll be able to play nearly everything and have HDMI to your TV.

    PC to hub, cat5
    Hub to WDTV, cat5
    WDTV to TV, HDMI

Should be able to do it for @$100US with no changes to PC, plenty of bandwidth, and no playing around with codecs (mostly). Just play the files with MPCHC from the PC.
    Have a good one,

I would definitely pick this solution over a wireless HDMI video adapter. The cost is probably close to one of the better wireless HDMI video adapters, assuming one has a wireless-N home network already.

Neomaine's solution is also good. Wireless home networking can't match Ethernet-based wired home networking for speed or reliability.

I did say 'like'. In anycase, I checked several reviews on quite a few different models, as advised to do from previous replies, and found both positive and negative - no surprise there. However, if 'reviews' are a yardstick for people here, let it be known that the positive reviews outnumbered the negative. And most of the negative comments focused on installation and device proximity. I gather this is not a mature technology. So, again, no big surprise.

An average giving a three star overall rating on Amazon is lackluster as far as I am concerned, plus I count three star reviews as negative. Apparently you count them as positive or don't count them. You are right, this is not a mature technology but if you want to gamble on it, that is your call.

Understand I am quite novice in these things and was only making a theoretical conclusion based on what I have researched. Thank you for the confirmation.
