hello all. i've just purchased a sony digital 8 camcorder and i'm in the process on getting my computer setup so that i can edit video and then burn it onto cd-r's. i need help selecting an inexpensive yet good DVD player. money is pretty tight right now from purchasing this camcorder and all the stuff that goes along with it. i've done some research and think that svcd is probably the format that i'm going to burn in. so i need a DVD player that will play cdr's (all color dyes, greens, blues, gold, and silver) and recognize vcd and svcd. i'm not too sure about miniDVD, but if there's a DVD player out there reasonably priced that will play these as well, please let me know. from a dvd compatibility chart i was looking at earlier today, i saw the "Sampro DVE 620" model played all these formats and had a region hack. does anyone know about this player? please let me know what you think and any other models that you know are good. thanks very much for your time and any help. also, sorry about this long @ss post. peace

  2. Yes, Sampo DVE-620 will play all the formats listed, so does the Afreey LD-2060. They just stopped production on those. Last shipment to North America left a few weeks ago.

  3. I also have a Sampo 620 its awesome. It goes perfect with my surround sound 5.1 digital, and it has composites out the back to connect with the very best quality to you T.V.

  4. I also have a sampo and I'm pleased with it.

It is the same as the afreey model, right down to the
    firmware.

If you browse these forums, you'll probably see Apex and
pioneer models mentioned often, usually favorably. Both of
these companies have models that play most of the formats
we talk about on these forums. My sampo has played anything
    I've ever fed it.

The sampo is said to have better mp3 support than the apex,
and the mp3 support on samsung players (which I NEVER see
mentioned here) is rumored to be awful.

A note about Apex-- they make a couple of very inexpensive
multi-disc players. Before I got into making vcd's,
I didn't see the point. But when a movie spans multiple
discs, something like that becomes very attractive.
