Hello everyone, I'm new here and I came here for help.
I've been using MKVToolnix for my MKVs since this summer, I use it to add audios and subtitles and other times to sinchronyze it the audio with its tool. Well, the problem is one that I noticed last summer too; when I added subtitles or audio, any kind of thing, it plays well on VLC and any other player (though some play it slow to past forward) but on my Blu-ray player.. that's the main problem - all the MKVs I remux with this program seem to have problem with passing forward.
Let me explain myself better: the main problem is with passing forward and skipping chapters. You see, everytime I pass forward on the Blu-ray, goes super slow and I can only do it up to 4x, and if I skipped chapter, it took like 10 minutes or more depending of how far the time of the movie is.. and well I thought it was my Bluray problem since my HDD is USB and HDD so it may have problems reading it but I just discovered today it's far from it - there seems to be a problem with MKVToolnix and I don't know why I can't skip chapters or scenes on my MKVs and that's problematic - because it feels comfy and great for me to skip scenes and go to credits, y'know those things, and it doesn't go slow.
I really need a solution for this because I have one MKV that is so great as its RAW without being touched by MKVToolnix but I need some program like that to add the subtitles because the MKV is on japanese, and to add some audios.
I'd appreciate fast help.
Thanks

Could possibly be this issue https://trac.bunkus.org/wiki/FAQ%3APlaybackDoesNotWorkVLCCannotSeekMkvmerge590
or something similar. New elements added to Matroska spec since v5.6
When elements are added to the spec software players get updated to take advantage. Hardware players not so much, well you could check for a firmware update that addresses matroska. Don't know if you should update firmware on a whim though. That whole if it isn't broke don't fix it thing.
Would first just try remuxing with an older version just to nail down the problem.Last edited by rnb5500; 30th Sep 2013 at 12:19.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your problem correctly. If your talking about just adding things to a MKV file than for me that usually results in a problem with my media player much like you describe.
Don't know why it happens on some files but for me it does.
What I do now is demux everything and just re-mux with new stuff added and old stuff removed. Haven't had a failure doing it this way.

My main problem is that my Blu-ray player can't pass forward or skip chapters of the MKVs I remux with MKVToolnix. On VLC goes alright.

I remuxed a movie today with the version you told me and it now works perfectly. Thanks a lot, mb5550
Thanks everyone for the help ^^ -
small note side note about the added elements and hardware players:
Following the specification unknown elements should be ignored, so if a hardware player chokes on a new element, it wasn't spec compliant to begin with,..
Also I would recommend to better figure out which feature to dis-/enable to get a mkv which is compatible with ones player than sticking to some old mkvtoolnix version.
