Media server for home without internet

Is it possible to have a server to stream video files to different rooms of the house. There is no internet. If possible what hardware would I need to in order to make this possible?

A router (wired or wireless) can be used to set up a home network even without Internet service. Get Cat6 cables if you are setting up from scratch and are building a wired network. Computers connected via wired Ethernet need to have a LAN port. Wireless adapters or powerline adapters can also work for connecting computers to the home network but they do not work well in every situation. Sometimes the home's wiring isn't right for powerline, and sometimes there are too many walls between the router and the computer to get a good signal with a wireless adapter. You can use a combination of these technologies if using just one doesn't provide an adequate solution.

Sort of obvious, but you need a PC or something like a WDTV box in each room and plugged into the LAN cable. You set up the server drives to be shared and they will show up on each PC as a network drive. I go one step further and use a WOL (Wake on Lan) program to turn on the server so it doesn't run 24/7. http://magicpacket.free.fr/ The server is set to timeout and go to 'sleep mode' automatically after 30 minutes of idle time.

I've never had much luck with wireless streaming, but it should work. Most newer routers are 'N' capable and they should have plenty of bandwidth for video streaming.
