Hello !
I used DVDsubedit to transform a sup file into srt, but this is the kind of characters that I got :
,_3;_!r;_, r_' ___,;;_'r í__ _ííj__ í';_!r_r_í;1__r_,;;;_!ír__
Isn't it strange ?
My DVD, the beautiful Ram aur Shyam (1957) was ripped with DVDFab HD Decrypter 4.Then I demuxed the streams with Vobedit.
Now I wanted the french subtitles.
When I opened the sup 0x21 with DVDsubedit, I could read the good captions on the screen, but when I used the OCR, the result was that incomprehensible characters.
How can I do ?
Thanks by advance.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

I would try ocr with something else like subtitle edit.

For SubtitleEdit you should install the french dictionary and Tesseract. The dictionary can be installed from SE.
Use the portable version of SE - for the installer version you'll have to install in %appdata%\subtitleedit\tessract\tessdata -

Hello everybody !
Thank you for your posts, and for thelinks you put, too. I’ll try to answer to everyone.
Actually, I tried this OCR, and found itvery slow, and not so much convenient. Too many time and work to do.
I would use it only on the last resort. ButI keep it anyway, we never know !
This one I didn’t know : VSRip. Thanksfor the tip, I’ll try it.
You’re right, it’sthe 1967’s movie. I bought mine at singingcinema.com http://www.singingcinema.com/fr/films-bollywood/2799-ram-aur-shyam-dvd.html
It's a Spark edition.
Images are good, but sometimes too blue, sometimes too red. Well, it's an old movie !
French subtitles are not very good, but correct ; the english ones seem good.
For booth of them, some sentences aremissing sometimes. If you speak hindi a little, you can hear some words thatare not written, but I think it doesn’t matter.
My purpose is to extract the frenchsubtitles, work on them to have a good quality, and them rebuild the DVD.
Have a nice day ! -

Hello leghorn
Nice tool this VSrip. Looks like Vobsub.
Very easy to install ! And to handle too. But I haven't tried to convert the idx to srt yet.
Thans for the link, videobruger I followed the tutorial, and Subtitle Edit made the work : now I have my french Ram-aur-Shyam.srt (but it took about 4 hours to OCR the sup... Isn't that a bit long ?) -

Lots of blu-ray players will not read image based subs when playing mkv,avi etc... so srt is the only choice, might be what the op is trying to do.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Well, I worked with srt since I began, I'm used to it. Someday, I'll buy a Blu-Ray writer, so it will change my life. But for the moment, I want the better images possible, so I demux the VOB, I rewrite the subtitles, convert srt to sup with subtile creator, and re-author a DVD with ifoedit or rejig.
And I don't understand a thing about idx, sub, or PiTA (???). And most of all, BDsup2sub works with Java, that I don't want on my PC. -
Thanks !
Still the problem remains : why did I have those strange characters ?
But with your helps, I managed to get a srt that is correct (see the attachment file), so now I can work on it, thanks ! -
I didn't find the standalone version, but never mind leghorn, I'll do differently

Because your player doesn't support ASCII characters above 127 (0x7F) ? Or you have the wrong code page loaded.

Hello jagabo !
This is a very precise answer, thanks.
Now, what can I do, I don't know, but it doesn't matter : I've got the srt.
Thanks everyone for your help
