  1. Hey all,

I have a ton of MP4 files that I'd like to convert over to MKV. After searching a bit, I only see posts of people wanting to go from MKV to MP4, for some reason.

I'd prefer all my video files as H264 MKV since MP4 files tend to lag and stutter when trying to stream from my PC to my WD TV Streaming set top box. MKV files play flawlessly.

Is there an easy, one click solution to get these files into MKV format, while keeping file size and quality constant? I've tried re-encoding with Handbrake, but either the file size blows up, or the quality degrades, or both. I'm getting a little tired of messing around with quality settings in Handbrake.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear, thanks!

  2. agreed... mkvtoolsnix with the mkvmerge gui is the only way I go... super simple and quite efficient. The rising of the MKV container is that it can hold so much file information whereas the mp4 can't hold as much. I have converted all my files to mkv over the years. It also saves filesize by a few gigs if you convert a m2ts blu ray movie to mkv.
