  1. Hey I'm having an issue with TMPGenc on my laptop, it only renders the first frame of a video I'm trying to encode, but will still output a file of the correct size (ie I put a 2 minute video in, a 2 minute video comes out, but the entire video is just the first frame).

the app works fine on my desktop cpu and Im not really sure what the problem is on my laptop. Anyone can help me out?

edit: forgot to mention, the audio comes out fine too that doesn't get stuck at the first frame.

TMPGenc has produced about 40 products over the past several years, with 10 or so in current release.

I disagree. There's nothing wrong with the free TMPGenc encoder. It's even used in pro and semi-pro shops. Freemake uses HCenc, which is newer, but saying that one encoder is "better" than the other depends on a great many things-- including how the user sets it up. HCenc has more encoding options (for those who know what they're doing). In most cases, and all else being equal, it's often difficult to tell the difference.

What does "only renders the first frame" mean? I take it to mean the result is 2 minutes of one frame played repeatedly. Something wrong with the settings here.

And not a bad suggestion. Meanwhile I've used TMPGenc and HCenc for years, never had a problem with any of them like the one described.

The stated problem does sound a bit familiar. I would check the 'usual suspects' such as illegal characters in the title, too long a title, or a problem with where the original file is coming from or the encoded file is being sent, bad addresses or drive problems or similar. It may not really be a encoder problem.

  9. I tried freemake and it worked fine, so the problem seems to lie with TMPGenc.

There's no way to reach that conclusion without more info about the source video and how you set it up in TMPGenc.

Perhaps something to do with TMPG's source filter. Could always setup a simple Avisynth script to decode the file
and then open that in the program.
