Well you could use either of the following ideas.

1: PUT A CUSTOM WATERMARK ON YOUR VIDEO

2: Video overlay, sony vegas, wax 2

3: Chroma key using green background

If its really simple and you only need it to be on the bottom of the video you could even just make a subtitle file and hardcode it. Just follow any subtitle guide and just search for "hardcoding" and you'll get it embeded in the video (requires reencoding). You can softcode it and make it selectable but it won't be visible unless its selected manually.

    Handbrake can hardcode subtitles.

Actually so far as I know you should be able to make a simple text file with the score and save as a .srt file or .ass file. Then load the video and select "burn in" and select the subtitle file in the subtitle tab in handbrake.

That would be a quick and dirty way to do a simple white text scoreboard. it would be one line long and no graphics whatsoever. But it would be there. And at least in this method it would be on for the whole duration of the video.

But there should be subtitle programs that can tell when to put subtitles on screen.

Come to think of it this might not be an ideal solution if you want it to appear for a given duration and not the whole length of the video.

On the other hand you can tell subtitles when to appear by the time index so I suppose you could just have a time index and leave it blank until the spot you want it to pop up.

So a nle video editor might be a better option so you can fine tune it graphically rather than this backdoor method.

  4. As previous posters have suggested, the options depend on:

How sophisticated does it need to be?
How much are you willing to spend?
How much time are you willing to spend learning?

Are you implying you have Vegas?

If so, just load your footage then do an overlay. The help file is quite good and there are dozens of tutorials on YouTube.

Just Google for a scoreboard and use that.

Easiest way is just make up a bunch of PNG's ready to go with the numbering already rendered. Then just swap them out.

Do you know how to create graphic elements? Use that.

Some things are just easier to do in a vector or raster graphic program, than NLE. However, the animation can be done in the NLE, and rendered separately as individual clips.

Custom overlay is simple enough except where change needs to be reflected and there are a number of ways to do it.

In most NLE's you place video in timeline and in the overlay area place the graphics required for score board and stretch it out until the first score change is needed. Modify the score board and place after the first score card in the overlay timeline and again stretch it till score changes again, repeat as required.

That's probably the quickest method and keeping a graphics editor open to make quick edits to the scoreboard would be helpful. Save as new image for usage

The only issue is the source file, vegas and wax 2 are picky so if that's the choice I'd recommend re-encoding source material to huffy if source is not accepted by those apps ... you'll need a lot of hd space if the source file is long.

Ummm...that's a different technology then video. Gifs are animations, true, but they're only playable on a web page via a web server.

You need to get your brain on the other side of the curtain before anyone can help you.

You don't need any plug-ins. Built-in functions are more than adequate.

    Guys, thank you all

I found a solution last night. I downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS3 and editet scoreboards that i found in internet when the result changed in the game. After that i overlayed that with Sony Vegas PRO 11 and it worked really good. Here is a result of it

    Thanks again

Not quite -- you can drop an animated .GIF on the Vegas timeline and use it like any other video, transparency included. Very handy.

    That IS a handy discovery.

Getting it out of Vegas as an animated gif doesn't seem possible though. But I suppose that doesn't matter so much.

    Excellent!

I'm looking forward to adding moving .GIFs of leaping Japanese anime cats to my videos from now on.

I'm about 2/3 joking about that.
