    hi,
i want to rip some dvds with korean audio and english subtitles(i use makemkv) then re-encode the .mkv i get into a better compressed .mkv file(they are 720x480 and are 4gb+ per dvd).
the subtitles in the dvd are not in any file separated from the .vob files(only files on the dvd are .bup, .ifo, .vob), after i used makemkv to rip the dvd i got 3 .mkv and only 1 subtitle stream(english), when played in vlc these subtitles can be set to disable or select english(or korean if i were to rip that too).
when using mediacoder to re-encode i tried using several subs options but the result is without subtitles. how can i extract or embed the subs to the new re-encoded .mkv the best way, so i keep the perfect text and timers.

i also tried MKVExtractGUI-1.6.4.1Wizard-1.2 but i can't the resulting file is an error, subrip with ocr, but i don't trust the conversion from picture? i suppose to test, and some streams are split into 3-4 .vob files and ripped into 1 .mkv and i'm not sure how to make 1 single subtitle file for them with subrip OCR.

what i want is the re-encoded files to have the original subs text and timers no matter if is hardsub, softsub or .str file, the idea is to be accurate(as the audio is in korean and subs in english no way i can see the mistakes and correct them). i have read a few articles here, thus i tried a few programs, but some gave me errors and i will like a better walkthrough if possible.

ok, details on settings? mediacoder was suppose to do it also, but it fails with no errors and multiple sub settings, i still get the video with no subs.

    They never are.
after i used makemkv to rip the dvd i got 3 .mkv and only 1 subtitle stream(english)...
In what format? I would guess they're VobSubs (IDX/SUB)? While some programs will allow for the import of SUB files, they're a different kind, the text-based SUB files, and not the graphic-based VobSubs.
what i want is the re-encoded files to have the original subs text and timers no matter if is hardsub...
If VobSubs is what you have, then use a program that accepts VobSubs as input. XviD4PSP is one. I don't know about others.

Edit Later: I was just checking Hybrid and it can mux the VobSubs, without actually encoding or burning them into the video. Or they can be encoded or 'hardsubbed'.
