  1. I really need to use VirtualDub but it's not working.

Whenever I attempt to save as AVI, it reads 1/xxx and never continues. Meanwhile, the estimated time goes through the roof.

I've tried redownloading it but that hasn't helped.

Sometimes it will render 10-15 frames before it stops, and other times if you let it sit for 20 minutes it will continue to frame 2, but then stop again.

I realize it's a very old program, but there isn't anything else I can use.

    Please give more information.

Does this happen with every video source? What is the video source? video and audio codec.
What export settings are you using? Video and audio codecs.

  3. It happens when I try to join JPGs into an AVI file for a time-lapse. It also happens when I open the AVI video file and re-encode it.

In both cases, I am using Lagarith.

    Export settings: 5184x3456, 24fps, Lagarith, YUV 4:2:2.

    5184x3456?

Try a much lower resolution just to check if it is that cause it. Because 5184x3456 with lossless lagarith will be ENORMOUS in file size.

Yeah, I know. It's about 10GB per minute.

VideoMach has no problem encoding it.

If by lower resolution, you mean using the "Resize" filter, then no.

Now, for some reason Sony Vegas refuses to read the MKV file created by Handbrake, so I'm trying to convert it to AVI using VirtualDub.

I am getting an error "Out of memory", which is impossible because I have 16GB of RAM.

EDIT: Yikes, I just can't catch a break..

I'm trying to convert the video using AVIDemux, but I am getting the error "Bitrate too low?"

Have you tried another video codec?

No, Lagarith is the only one I'm using right now.

I'm mainly interested in resolving these three problems:

1.) VirtualDub stuck on first frame.
2.) VirtualDub "Out of memory" error.
3.) AVIDemux "Bitrate too high?" error.

    Should I start another thread?
