  1. I'm a total noob when it comes to this. I've read through the forum, but it's making my head spin.

I'm making a compilation DVD of concert footage. The concert footage has been transferred from VHS and now each show is in a separate VIDEO_TS folder. These shows are short, maybe 20 minutes long, so I will have quite a few shows per disc.

What is the best way to go about putting these vide_ts folders into a DVD and then making a nice menu that would let you pick and choose concert dates. I'm good with Photoshop, so I want to make something cool in Photoshop and then use it for the menu.

If I need a separate program to make the menu, that is fine.

Also is there just a basic VHS clean up filter in AviSynth or VirtualDub? Also, some concerts are a little dark, would also like to brighten them up a bit if that's even possible.

Thanks. This all just seems a bit daunting never having done this before.

  2. Start with AVStoDVD.

You will want to use the individual .vob files from your video_ts folders because a DVD can have only one video_ts folder. It has a fairly basic menu creator, but you can make your own backgrounds in photoshop.

If you don't insist on free software, check out TMPGenc Authoring Works or DVD Architect.

for a 20 minute video, in 4:3 apsect, you are probably looking for ONE vob file from each folder
the largest vob file from the folder, possible less than 1 gig each, maybe only a few hundred megabytes

it might be a good idea copy and rename each vob with the name or date of the concert

when authoring your dvd use the renamed copied files
    concert-1.vob
    concert-2.vob
    etc
as your source files for the dvd

you can check the vobs in the folder by playing each one with VLC aka video lan player it free , its very good, and it will play vobs
