Hello,
I bought a Canon Legria HF G10 and was thinking of buying a filter only for lens protection. Is there any inconvenient in doing so? Can the image quality be affected by the application of such a filter? Can you give me some tips concerning what type of filter to buy if in fact I should buy one?
Thank you very much.
Nuno

it's a good idea to get an ultra clear for shooting indoors, and a uv filter for outdoor daylight.

As soon as I bought my JVC camcorder, I got a clear glass and stuck that over the lens. Then no worries about dust or scratches on the regular lens. Camcorder lens are sometimes small, but you can usually find filters online. Try Amazon or Ebay. Your camera manual should tell you the size.
You might also look into a UV filter and a circular polarizer filter. It's great for increasing the contrast of clouds and skies. One possible downside of adding anything to your lens is vignetting if the glass sticks out too far. But not likely unless you stack filters or add a lens hood and it usually only shows at wide angle settings.
