I have noticed that when I rip region 1 DVDs I get horizontal grey lines in some frames. This does not happen when I rip Region 2 DVDs.
I use smart ripper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc.
Can someone please tell me what to do to correct this?
Thanks in advance.

I take it since you ripped region 2 you know that the fps on region 1 is 29.97 and pic is 480x480 r u loading the nstc film or nstc template? what are you converting to vcd svcd the more info you give thses guy's the more help they are. Post some more info and see. I had a similar problem and i was just loading the wrong template.

i'm assuming you made your dvd-rom "region-free", otherwise, you wouldn't be able to play both region 1 and 2 dvds on your dvd-rom to unlock the files for smartripper....
what does dvd2avi's info box tell you about the source video? is it NTSC, interlaced or FILM, progressive?
