Any idea why? I have been using this site to read up on tutorials and to easily find the software that I need for awhile now and never had any problems until I used someone else's computer with McAfee installed. It seems that the tools section of this website is showing up with a big red X and it said something to the affect that this page was acting suspiciously or something. Its only the tools section and I don't know if it would because there are some spyware listed there or what?

Anyway, just thought I would see if anyone else has seen this.

I don't know why they list it with a warning when all files they have tested are safe, http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/downloads/startat0/videohelp.com/tools

Not all of the downloads pages on the tools page show up with a warning either so I figure its probably just because some of the software is adware and spyware.

Yeah, his computer is usually pretty slow and gets viruses sometimes anyway. I guess its better to have McAfee then nothing though?

But they could at least list what files they think are dangerous.

Yeah, that would be nice if there was a list on McAfee. However this website at least does a good job of informing as to what kind of software is listed, rather it be freeware, freeware/adware, spyware, adware, shareware etc.

One quick quistion about one of the programs on this site that is listed as "freeware/adware". Is that different from adware in that it is not intrusive to my privasy like "adware" or "spyware"?

I just got off the phone with someone who is good with computers. He informed me that if its listed as "adware/freeware" then it can invade your privasy and possebly mess up your computer and applications but if its listed as "freeware/adware" that it will not be dangerous or invade your privasy but will have advertisements and/or promotional offers for software embedded in the program as banners (like in torrent programs).

The reason I ask is because I installed switch sound file converter and all of the other free applications that come with it befor seeing it listed on this site as "freeware/adware". I like the program but want to make sure its safe to have. Windows defender didn't return any negative results either.

Most freeware/adware comes with so call software suggestions or browser toolbar plugins during the installation. Just be sure to decline/deselect all of them during the installation and you should be fine. If you can't deselect the adware addon then abort and find another software.

MrRed: Who said my computer is slow? I merely stated that I was running McAfee in 2001, 12 years ago, and had a virus then.

The laptop lived another 4 years without a virus - so that pretty much makes your statement crap.

Try Microsoft's free antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials), or some of the other free antivirus.I currently use Est NOD, because it works with MAC OS.

Avast is nice for an already infected machine - will do a boot time scan.

By "his" I was reffering to my friends computer that Ive been using, not yours. Thanks for the info, I will check out avast, your the second person to recomend it to me today actually. I havent had a reason to buy any antivirus software due to lack of internet but will check it out.

    Thanks, much appreciated.
