hi there im newby, not much into hardcore burnin' n rippin' but just into rippin' whats cool.
my deal, ive ripped a clip from my vcr using this:one end goes into the output of the vcr and the other goes into line in of the pc (obviously right?) so i rip it at damn good quality (mpeg2) but whne i play it back sound only comes out of the left speaker. is there something wrong with the intial settings? i remember when i edited the video with roxio 5.0 i save it, it corrected itself, but the quality was real shitty. so is there a possibilty of me correcting it with another program? thanx for any help, this has been a massive headache for like 3-4wks.

You were caputring from your vcr, not ripping. Was the plugs pushed in all the way into your sound card? Sounds like it was not. need more info on what programes did you use?

Broken wire in cable?
Mono VCR?
Try playing the raw capture file with Windows Media Play or ? on the computer. If both sides play here it's not a capture problem but an encoding problem.

i am using an ati program that came with my radeon 7200. video in version 7.0 and i been trying this for quite some time now, so im sure the wires are plugged in properly. it couldnt be a broken wire from a cable because i tried another set i had, and it still didnt play in both speakers. then i played the raw capture with windows media player, nada, still hear from the left speaker. now a mono vcr, wouldnt that be a vcr with only yellow and white outlets? bc mine has all 3 (yellow, white, red) i doubt its a mono vcr tho.

mine is already with the motherboard i got. its an ac-97. the motherboard is a AZ11E

I had problems with the soundcards built on my old motherboard. You might want to try to record some audio with that line in. to see if you have just mono again. that might be your problem. it might be a mono input or is not wired right or broken.

holy shnikey's. i just listened to an audio i recorded before, that too came only thru one speaker. so your sayin' the sound card could possibly a mono input only? or fucked up wiring or its just flat out broken? damn..... now to see which is the prob. thanx everyone

If you can play MP3's and such with full sound it is not the driver. On the back of your vcr, do you have ONE PLUG for audio or two? If its just one plug then its mono and that explains why you are only getting one side of sound. To solve the problem i would say get a Y Adapter, plug that into your VCR AUDIO OUTPUT, Then take the 2 RCA CABLES and run them to your PC. Put another Y Adapter on the RCA cables and plug them into your Soundcard, this should fix your problem.

This might sound dumb, but since you do not know for shure wether your vcr is stereo or not (it seems like it) are you shure the recording is stereo? Have you tried plugging your vcr to your stereo and checked if ther're sounds in both cables/channels?

The RCA cable in the picture doesn't look like stero cable. You should
have 3 black rings in jack. It looks like you you have only two rings. -
Is that a stereo mini plug? Are you using patch cables (Left Spkr-Right Spkr) with the stereo plug(?) at the same time? You should have a Red, a White and a Yellow (video) wire.

I think you have a hardware problem. I would check the owners manual for the motherboard. To see what you have for line in. You also could try another sound card.
You do have the right cable for sound.May the force be with you. -
hmm....well here are some conclusions i guess. i tried my vcr with surround sound, switch it to "a" side, it played fine, then switch to "b" side, there was hardly any sound. i thought it was the vcr since the settings could have mono-lr-l-r sound, i figured that vcr is busted. so i got my vcr, captured a vid, same results. but now odd thing is that i can only put the mini plug (is that the term?) half in the line in input. if i push it in all the way there is no sound.
answering some ?'s i guess:
ninjee: my vcr does have red and white audio outputs. i guess your implying i should use thisbut if i did, then i would have no place to put the top end into. bc my pc doesnt have such place to be plugged in.
ktajudeen: what do you mean by 3 black rings? should i be having different audio calbes than normal red and white ones?
TheSeven7hSon: ya refering to the 2st pic right? if ya are, then yes the red and white audio cables are connected with the stereo mini plug. i am using a yellow line as well.
Tbear: what sort of hardware prob? here what is says in the manual about the sound
~Compact onbaord Audio Subsystem
embeded in VIA 686B, an integrrated PCI-mastering dual full duplex direct-sound AC-97-link-compatible audio usbsyytem. hardware sounnd blaster pro and FM blocks are combined for MS WIndows DOS box and real mode DOS compatibilty. the loopback capability implemented for directing mixed auid streams into USB speakers for digital sound
but i do have the right cables? -
Goto radio shack and pick up an apapter. It comes in a package with 2 other adapsters. Just take the RCA cable in and tell them you need it converted to the size of a headphone jack and they will show exactly what im talkin about :)
-
To be more exact, you could use this as well:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=&product%5Fid=274%2D883
That should work the same as the adapster i was referring to except it would eliminate the need for a Y-Adapter.[/url] -
He has the right cable in the first picture he is holding both ends. Stereo plug will have two black rings, not three. Because they use only three wires, left, right and shared ground.
I would say you found your problem with the line in jack! You could try and get it fixed or buy a new motherboard or buy or find another sound card. You have some options here.May the force be with you. -
damn.....gay ass sound card. i guess imma go with plan "b", im gonna send this dude the vid so he could capture it. anywho thanx all ya'll, laterz......
-
Actually, he said the sound was his problem. On a PC it is setup a bit different. on the mini RCA PLUG you have 3 connections.
the long "stick" like this is ground
Then the first round ring is left channel
second round ring is the right channel
if he bought that adapter and plugged the two audio RCA's into that, then plugged the mini rca end of it into his pc, it shouldnt be a problem.
