Hello
I also bought this horrible dvd by mistake , im from israel (region 2 pal) who would have thought that Sony is busy restricting the viewing with so many limitations, (only ntsc, only region 1)I thought Sony is a high quality company , For the fairness they had to write in large letters on the dvd box that its designed for the United States and Canada only, but they did NOT wrote it ,and I saw it on ebay it looks normal dvd. THAT reads everything., it turns out that dvd from cheap Chinese manufacturers are more user friendly...and plays everything too.![]()

Many dvd players do NOT read everything. They are locked to one region. Did you buy this from a seller in the US ? If you did that should have been fair warning to you.
You could have bought one from practically any seller in Europe which would have worked fine. -
Sony and Samsung DVD and BD players are currently the most restricted in the world. I'm sorry that you didn't get the message years ago that Sony long ago stopped caring about its customers, but you have learned a difficult lesson. Sony's problem is that the company is run by the people who manage the movie and music part of the business rather than the electronics business. The people who are from the music and movie part of Sony view ALL human beings as thieves. No joke. Sony DVD and BD discs are the most restricted in the world and have been for years. Sony spends a good deal of money on anti-copy technology like Cinavia and no other Hollywood studio regularly goes to the extremes they do. Sony also does not like region free players for a variety of reasons, some having to do with licensing which actually make sense and some reasons are from their "all humans are thieves who want to steal our stuff" paranoia.
US and Canadian DVD and BD players are in general the most locked down in the world. If you bought on Ebay from a seller in one of those countries, I'm sorry but it's YOUR fault for not doing your research ahead of time. Most sellers on Ebay aren't very smart and it's possible that the seller has no idea that region codes even exist or that the player wouldn't work for you. As an American, I can tell you that the majority of people in my country are very xenophobic and ignorant about anything outside of the USA. I wouldn't be surprised if you contacted the seller to complain that they have no idea why you are having problems and have never heard of PAL video or DVD region codes.
My general recommendation to people is that if you don't live in the USA or Canada, do NOT buy electronics from there. Period. Welcome to the club of people who try to save money by purchasing DVD or BD players in the USA where there is no VAT and then they get home and find out that the player is useless to them. -
There is a solution to that too, converting the dvd from pal to ntsc easily and in a short time, with the software convertxtodvd, excellent conversion result, it's both just SD quality(pal, ntsc) so no problem,Anyway 720p video quality looks a LOT BETTER then dvd , the only dvds we see are kids dvd .
thanks
