i use the standard system of smart ripper to dvd2avi to tmpgenc to vcdcutter. however sometimes when i use dvd2avi the audio and video go out-of-sync. doesn't happen to every dvd rip. just a few. what can i do to fix the problem. the only solution i've come up with so far is to return to flaskmpeg method of dvdripping. is there setting in dvd2avi that i need to adjust? or is the problem with tmpgenc? some suggestions from more experienced vcd users please. or at least someone else who has experienced my problem. thanks.

is the audio outta sync for the exact amount of time throughout the movie or is it gradually getting outta sync as the movie goes along?
if the audio is outta sync by the same length throughout the movie, you can use the audio skew feature in the source range filter in tmpgenc...
i've had to use this with couple movies (i.e. 10 things i hate about you and usual suspects) -
There are a couple steps in your process that could be causing the desync. First off make sure you use dvd2avi 1.76, not any newer versions since they have sync problems. Also it would be best if you didnt use dvd2avi to process your audio at all. It is known to cause sync problems on some dvds. Instead set dvd2avi to demux instead of decode. This will give you an ac3 file which you can decode using a more stable program like azid. Just follow the audio guides at www.doom9.net and you'll be fine.
Secondly, vcdcutter does not export vcd compliant mpg streams and this usually results in sync problems. If you choose to use vcdcutter to cut your movies you will need to demux and then remux in either TMPGenc or bbmpeg. You should just use bbmpeg to cut your mpgs since it will eliminate the extra steps. -
In my exp vcdcutter makes big synch probs. ALWAYS use source range instead.
ps I use same method as you to rip, except now i do audio seperate like guy above says to.
good luck -
Well my problem was making sure i had the right sampling freq. i had mine on 44 hz when it should have beenon 48 hz. Before I did that the audio was always outta sync...
tks
