  1. Hi,
I want to "author" (burn...) a short 4 minute movie onto a disc (10 copies, fyi)
And I want it to be compatible with most dvd players and computers...
But o keep it in the best quality possible.. considering it was shot in 1080p
I have the original uncompressed AVI of the movie (42.1GB) and a high-quality streaming-version of it (1.4GB)
    What should I do?

    Thanks in advance! ^_^

    Edit:
    Additional info regarding 42.1GB version:
    AVI OpenDML, 1920*1080, 1493 mbps, Raw RGB 8bit, 30FPS, 4 minutes 2 seconds
Audio: PCM (WAV?), Constant 1536 kbps, 2 channels, 48KHz, 16bit, Aligned on interleaves
Total size in MB: 43116 MB

    Additional info regarding 1.4GB version:
    MP4 H264 1920*1072 pixels (how did that happen?) , 30FPS Progressive, 4 minutes 2 seconds
    49.9 mbps Variable, AVC High@L4.1, YUV 4:2:0
Audio: AAC, LC, 309-408 kbps, 44.1KHz, 2 channels
Total size in MB: 1440 MB

    Solution:
Converted the 40GB using AVStoDVD to DVD-Structured (thanks davexnet)
Added the FullHD MP4 (140MB version)
    Made an autorun
added standalone player to the disc
    BURN!!
(then signed each one by hand...it's for the production crew)

Convert it to regular DVD. Try something like AVStoDVD.

  3. In the thread title "Burning 4 Minute FullHD Movie on CD" is not possible. A CD can only hold approx 700 MB, which is not near enough per the details in the post. A DVD can hold the 1.4GB version as data but most DVD players will not be able to play it. So, it becomes a question of " how much are you willing to give up to meet the criteria?" davexnet's comment is one way, if the content is acceptable as a DVD, but not Full HD

    I will try it asap

Man.... I have the original 40GB file SO I CAN CONVERT AND COMPRESS it to the RIGHT size for a CD.
So as the 1.4GB WHICH IS MEANT FOR STREAMING, not for the disc.
Please read... I write exact and careful...
And the movie is 4 minutes, biggest encoding (while compressing) was 5GB, smallest (while maintaining full quality) was 140MB.
And I want to give best playback I can...

    And for you two -

    A) What is the maximum quality compatible with DVD players? I need that... (resolution, bitrate, codec, etc..)

    B) Thinking of which, I have the option for giving multiple resolutions on the one disc;
    1080P - 140Mb;
    720P - approx. 100MB;
    480P - approx. 80MB;
    360P - approx. 50MB;
    Total size: 370MB ^_^
Now how do I do that?! (I might go for an autorun launcher for pc.. I can program..)

    C) I have a disk of Linkin Park which is an Audio Disc for Audio Players but a Data Disc for PC's...
Can that be the same way with video? and how the hell do I do that ~.~

    Thanks for the replies ^_^

"To burn" (a.k.a. to *record*) is not the same as "to author"

And AFAIK, most/żall? DVD-only SAPs don't support Hi-Def video, nor other formats than MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 ASP.
As for Blu-Ray SAPs, I guess it's unlikely they accept a BDMV folder structure recorded on CD media,
even if you use the UDF 2.5 filesystem

I'm trying to use AVStoDVD and write using it a DVD Folder Structure to a CD...
I mean, I'm preparing the files now, you suggest it won't work? (as for PC, will that work?)

    -PS
What I'll do is make a DVD Structured CD, with an additional folder called "FullHD" within I'll place the 140MB FullHD file for PC playback...

I think we're done here. Guys, not every newbie is worthy of the help offered. You can't help everyone who comes here. Additionally, if you older members haven't picked up on this, the OP has closed his mind to what he wants, so there's no point in trying to correct him or talk him out of it. He's not listening.

  8. I managed to get along with my way ^_^
    What I did:
First, I used DVD (I guess it could be actualy possible on CD, but from some reason I used NERO... so only dvd for dvd-video)
Put the DVD Structure files on the DVD,
in another folder called FullHD I put the FullHD file (mp4)
put MPC-HC in another folder, and codec installer
Made an Autorun program (took about an hour to program)
Now the DVD will play on any Windows PC without problems.
The DVD plays perfect on PC and on SAP DVD players (one Panasonic and one "Kennedy" Chinese one)

    Testing the same on CD...

jman98 - you are not reading the whole post - so you conclude incorrect facts about me.
And I'm doing, I'm in a part of a process I need results, fast, so sometimes I need to do more than I say so it looks like I'm not listening.
You didn't notice that I DID listen, and used what davexnet suggested, I read what El Heggunte wrote and directed.
Otherwise I wouldn't get the results I've got..

    Finished burning the CD, testing...
OK, the DVD SAP wont detect the DVD Structure files on the CD version...
Just needed a proof... -.-" I'm a testing maniac... (it was the cheapest test I have ever made - 0.5$USD for the disc XD)

My bullsh!t detector is in the red zone. You can make a data DVD of an HD video and play it on a media player on the computer, but no standalone, home DVD deck will play high def or mp4. It is incompatible. That is the very reason why they make Blu-ray. Evidently, Nero converted your HD video to a playable standard-definition version that is compatible with home DVD decks, or else you haven't really tried playing the disk on anything but your computer.

You have absolutely no idea what a workable DVD structure is (and I suggest you go to the section on this site labeled "What Is > DVD." It is up in the left column). And since you are unwilling to take the advice in this forum, one wonders why you even bothered to inquire of us.

  10. You missed the part where I used AVStoDVD to convert it to max-dvd-settings....in DVD-Structure....
    maaan you are hard...

"and used what davexnet suggested" - he suggested using AVStoDVD...
In Nero I just dropped the folders I made.. want a screenshot?

see you aren't reading?!? -.-" hate when people don't listen...

I DID try to play it on 2 DVD Players AND my Computer, I don't lie - you just don't follow.

And the MP4 is " in another folder called FullHD I put the FullHD file (mp4)"
for the PC users, which the Autorun app calls the MP4 file with the embed MPC-HC I put...

  11. It is pretty simple,
you make VIDEO_TS folder (made with avs2dvd for example ) for DVD and in the same root you can add your mp4 HD file, burn it all with free ImgBurn on DVD. It will play on DVD players.

Every PC should play that included HD mp4 file with their default player. Default media player would just launch and would play it. I wouldn't include any codecs! and not even player.

I made the autorun super simple for the user... so he wouldn't even need a player on his computer, or codecs (because of the MP4 which is H264, on some XP computers it needs a codec)
And I really like MPC-HC, so why won't other people use it, too? I'm publishing it ^_^

    Inside the VIDEO_TS I have vob,ts,ifo,bup files
inside the Audio_TS I put the hidden tracks (cause no-one sees that folder anyway)
    codec - self explanatory
    player - self explanatory
    FullHD - Contains the MP4

PS. I'm all talking about from my own experience and research.

  13. Matter of opinion, I hate when somebody forces some action behing my back. You do something, calculate, whatever, you put DVD into some notebook drive and it will stall it trying to chew up some HD video ...

You have the option to launch it using MPC-HC or launch it normally with the default player -.-"
I'm not forcing anyone anything... how did you get to that?
    Quote Quote
  15. ok that's certainly better, but personally I'd known that I'd already at this point, seeing that screen, launched some exe file, I'd be pissed anyway ... and those codecs, , not sure about this ...
    Quote Quote
  16. if you're on Vista\7\8 it will ask you if you want to launch the autorun...
    Quote Quote
  17. ok, that's neat, ..., hopefully folks will not go for that codec installation for any reason, like having slow PC and thinking they need codec to play it better etc. I wouldn't put it there ...

This is a good solution. Where does the screen come from that gives the user a choice to play the video?
Is it contained within the autorun.inf, or does the exe file you have provide it?
    Quote Quote
  20. MPCHC has built in codecs so nobody should need to install any codecs. I'm sure the OP used AUTORUN.INF to run a little program that gives that menu of choices. I'd use VLC instead of MPCHC. It works better as a portable player.

  21. davexnet - read what jagabo wrote...
I used autorun inf to run the exe,
and jagabo - I just wasn't sure, in a tooltip on the button I wrote "if there are any problems" you know.. just in case...
And personally I had too much hassle using VLC in my past, and it doesn't look cinematic enough for me,
    with MPC-HC, I run it with /fullscreen /play /close
Then it really looks pro, and that's what I wanted...
I see what you mean in the portable manners, but hey - it works, so who gives a s***t?
BTW, I'll post here a (youtube) link to the movie as soon as I publish it ^_^
