    It's different from the Seagate enclosures.
    It looks like you remove the top to open it (or if you prefer the side with the curves edge); it's probably snapped in place. I like to use a razor blade to open those, start from a corner, slip it in the seem and pry the lid open. Use the full length of the blade not just the corner and it won't leave any marks.

    The problem with eSATA is the cable, the specs say a SATA cable is 18" long and eSATA is 3', but the eSATA cable has better shielding. I've seen cheap kits that came with cables longer than 18" made with standard SATA wire. The eSATA connection on the box should only be a straight connection to the HDD's controller. If anything, the box controller should only pass the signal through to the drive. I've modded IDE enclosures this way, all that was needed was a USB bridge chipset with tri-state outputs, then I just added a 40 pin connector in parallel with the drive's.

    The top of the case was not snapped in place and could not be removed without breaking.
