Hello everyone,
I have created an Encore project on my PC which I need to burn on a DL DVD. My PC does not have a DL DVD burner so I copied the VIDEO_TS file which Encore created over to my MAC. I have then proceeded to convert the VIDEO_TS folder to a .cdr using Disc Utility. I can burn the resulting .cdr to DL DVD but it will not play on a dvd player or my MAC.
Please help, I'm running out of discs!!
Thanks,
Cambo

I know nothing about MAC but....cdr implies you created a CD image. A CD is not a DVD.

The .cdr files that Disk Utility writes are disk images for DVD/CD-master, that is: some meta data from the source disk is included as well. This can be useful for making bootable discs, but it is not the disk image format for DVD-Video that you seek. It doesn't let you choose a file system. Thus your disk image won't have the UDF 1.02 file system that DVD-Video requires. You’ll need a different tool to create UDF disk images.
DVD Imager or JIsoX can do that.
I’m surprised you didn't use Encore to create a disk image for you.Last edited by Case; 20th Aug 2013 at 02:52.

I'm not guaranteeing that this will happen on a Mac, but I'll share my personal experience. I have an iMac that is about 5 years old and has some kind of Optiarc burner drive in. NOTHING can burn a DL disc without failing. NOTHING. Not Burn. Not ImgBurn under a Windows VM. Not even Mac's own provided burning program. I only use high quality Verbatim DVD+R DL discs too, so it's not my discs. After making coasters will everything I tried, I have never again attempted to burn a DL disc on my iMac. If you have similar problems, I know of no solution except "use another box".
