  1. It's taking twics aslong to burn that is says it will.

Using Verbatim 2x DVDr it takes 1.5 hours to burn a full dvd! So I spoke to the people I got it from and they said install the newist VIA drivers. So I tried this on a fresh install and still no better.

Just did a test dvd which said it would take 4mins to burn on a 1x Verb DVD-RW and it took 22 mins to burn.

I'm not running any other SW whislt burning but it seems it's buffer under running.

Using prassi with the new PX engine.

    System:
    Athlon 1ghz
    Abit KT7A
    quantum 40 gig 7200rpm
    DVDrom
    some other stuff

I really don't wan't to send the drive back, 'cause if they test it and it's ok they will charge me for it and not replace the drive.

What does your IDE bus look like? Give us enough info to help you out! What is your OS?

You are achieveing less that 1x with your writer (1X for a full 4.7GB DVD is one hour (4.7GB/1.35MBps/3600sph=1.004)).

If I had to guess with the info that you have given, I would say that your DVD-RW is on the SLAVE channel of your PRIMARY IDE bus (where your HD SHOULD reside). Move the DVD-R to the MASTER of the SECONDARY IDE bus.

  3. also, make sure you have DMA enabled in the bios and in device manager under the secondary controller (assuming its on the secondary).

  4. sorry

    IDE1 master 40gig 7200 rpm HDD
    IDE1 slave 30 gig 5400rpm HDD
    IDE2 Master DVR-104
    IDE2 slave DVDrom

    OS=XP
DMA is checked in OS will check BIOS.

I have even disconnected my second DVDrom so there is only the DVDRW on IDE2.

  5. Your drive should be set to PIO4 mode not DMA. Try this you should be fine after that. If not do a reformat (I know sorry but I have also been through this) and make Prassi one of the first programs you reinstall, do not do an update until you know it works correctly. Does Prassi say "Initializing" through the recording process?

  6. Oh yeah also don't forget ,recording speed also depends on media, try a Pioneer DVD-R it should go faster. 50 minutes to 1 hour is about right for the generic media (1 1/2 hours is way long).

  7. Hi

I got the Pioneer A-04/1-04 yesterday. I've not tested the time of a full 4.7Gb disc yet. I'm using UDMA.

When writing at 1x with Nero on standard DVD discs, it was fine and took about 15 mins to burn 1Gb.

However, when i used DVDit to burn a Disc i authored, it took AGES to write the lead out track, i'd say 15mins

    perhaps its the software!

  8. the A04 and 104 drives support DMA, so this should be enabled.

They also support Burn Proof, for Buffer Underun Protection, this could be why it takes so long, if your computer is doing other things at the same time as burning.

Try, uninstalling all your burning programs, then install Prassi with the latest patch from their web site (install the patch before restarting, as my computer wouldn't reboot unless the patch was applied), then install Nero 5.8.0.0 if you intend to use this.

All should now work fine, i went through the same problems last week.

Just burn at 1x unless youve got media that has 2x stamped on it.

  9. This is normal! If you write a tiny amountto the disc, the lead out can take about 10 mins - I've had it before. This was taken from a site somewhere:
"I observed that when you write a small quantity of data (<10MB) it needs a very long time to close the disc (about 15min). This is because the lead out of the disk needs to be at some distance from its center and the drive needs to write up to that point"

So when it's taking ages, it's just writing up to that point.
