Trying to join two AVI files in virtualDub. Keep getting error 'Video streams do not share common sampling rate'
I know I had no problems when I used this before.

The two AVIs you're merging must have identical video and audio particulars. If they do, you won't have problems; if they don't, it won't work.

  3. You can try using AviDemux instead. It's a little more tolerant of slight differences.

Yeah, what Jagabo said. The problem with virtualdub is that it doesn't see a 29.970 as 29.97 or 29.970 but 29.9700001 and if it sees the second file as 29.9700002 then it refuses to join them. I've found the best way to force Virtualdub to join two files that are the same is to load the first file and change the framerate to 29.970 (so that it will save both files at the same framerate) and preferably saving each file without audio in direct copy mode, joining the two audio files with an audio editor, loading the two video files and using the "add audio from other file" and deirect stream copy both audio and video to a finished avi. It's easier just to use Avidemux but if you wanted to use Virtualdub then this is how I would recommend doing it.

I tried to talk Avery into at least showing a warning and giving you the option to join the files anyway but he said that he didn't want to promote doing it incorrectly. It might not matter in a short join but in a two hour movie, there is the chance that the file could be out of sync.
