  1. Hi!!!

I'm capturing 720x480 avi files with virtual dub. The problem is...

When I watch the TV signal in my PC, the image has a great image quality. Pretty close to a DVD image definition.

The problems occurs when I start to capture it. I tried all of codecs, hyffu, pic video, divx 5 pro and so on with alternated configurations

The image I capture looses a lot of quality ( specially sharpness and smothness) it gets little horizontal lines (not the overlay issue ones).
May be if there's some experts on it, I could send a pic of its quality.

    I have a 1.5 pentium 4. 256mb, 40gb 7200 rpm hd, voodoo 3dfx, a studio pctv pinaclle capture board.

Thanxs once more 4 the support

  2. what bitrate did you set DivX ?

low bitrate will always look worse.

you can find a lot about the different AVI codec's and how to use Nandub and Gordian Knot to make the best AVI you can at http://www.doom9.net/
thats really going to be your best bet for what codec to use - look at the guides and pay attention to the use of SBC (Smart Bitrate Control) to achieve the highest quality at the smalles size

    Hi,

If you're like me, you're looking at a fairly small picture on a high-res monitor.

One thing that can fool you is: The 720x480 pixels are very close together on you monitor and therefore give a much better-looking picture. When the same resolution is spread over a large TV that same information is spread over a much larger area which reduces the apparent picture quality.
