  1. What is the actual difference between the 32 and 64 bit versions of Potplayer? The 32 bit version seems to have more files and the exe setup file is larger. The obvious answer is that the 64 bit version is better suited for Windows 64 memory management, but I have a feeling many are using the 32 bit version anyway.

I can't even find the 64 bit version on the official site:

    http://tvpot.daum.net/application/PotPlayer.do

The 32 bit setup file on Daum.net is a 16MB file while the setup file on Videohelp.com is 15.3MB. The 64 bit setup version on Videohelp.com is only13.3MB. I thought that the setup file on the official site might be a comination of both versions, but it didn't ask me if I wanted to load one or the other upon setup.

Since this program gets updated so often, and I monitor the install anyway, I just want some detail on these version so I know what to reinstall next week.

You could email http://www.dvbsupport.net/ as we are mirroring those english versions.

  3. I emailed Dvdsupport.net and asked if they would join this thread. When I get a response, I'll post it. I'm surprised my questions haven't been asked before. There was a big thread about Potplayer on the Doom9.org forums, but they took it down over an open source code issue with the program.

  4. I received the following response from Dvdsupport.net:

The only difference between Official and English installers is that official installer contains the directx files (D3DCompiler_43.dll,d3dx9_43.dll)

English Installer checks those necessary files during installation and prompts you to install the DirectX Runtime package when if they not installed on the system.

If PotPlayer's built-in codecs are enough for you, then its 64-Bit version can be useful while using some features that require much more cpu/ram usage such as thumbnail previews, 3D, 10-Bit playback, etc.

But you can use both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of PotPlayer at the same time without causing any system confusion under 64-Bit Windows.

The setup size of 64-Bit version is smaller than the 32-Bit one because it does not contain some files related to internet (chat, broadcasting, TVPot...) and realmedia codecs.

Official 64-Bit version link is: http://get.daum.net/PotPlayer64/v2/PotPlayerSetup64.exe
I've emailed back asking if there's any reason the 64 bit doesn't contain the files that are related to the internet, and if the 64 bit program is really necessary with most people having at least 8 gig ram and multi-core CPU's.

Is there any chance that Videohelp can start a Potplayer help thread now that Doom9.org no longer has one?

You could have linked to it, although I should thank you for at least mentioning it. Is this the one you're referring to?

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/353738-Potplayer-development-bugs-issues

It was just started back in February and hopefully it will be as informative as the previous thread at doom9.org which is archived through Sept, 2012 on web.archive.org. It would be a nice touch if the Videohelp thread could be a sticky or in a sub-forum of software players, and the link placed on the Potplayer tool page:

You should have linked to it as well --- the Doom9 forum *indexes* are not archived by The Internet Archive, because it (very-stupidly IMHO) "respects" the robots.txt thing Also, it seems the The Internet Archive has NOT copied all the pages of that thread

And yes, it's time to say this again, the Doom9 staff has gone too far by "deleting" (actually making it invisible to the ordinary users and visitors) the topic named «PotPlayer x86/x64 (aka "KMPlayer Reloaded") ...in english now!». And oh BTW, doubtlessly one of the reasons for the "deletion" of that thread is the fact that it was started by someone (named leeperry) who is hated and regarded as a "troll" by some moderators and also by some ACTUAL TROLLS such as the useless Stargazer and the useless Kurtnoise . Yes, there was a thread dedicated to Potplayer skinning, and this latter was locked/deleted too exactly when leeperry posted in it. Coincidence? Not this time, granted.

    P.S.:

    For the curious,

You are correct. I should have tried to click through the pages, but I was so excited at seeing the first page archived, that I assumed all 100+ pages were there. I was only able to see the first several here and it's not nearly enough as one really wants to see the comments about the most frequent versions as well as setup tips.

That said, are you using the 32 or 64 bit version and do you download it from the Daum.net site or from Videohelp, Softpedia, Digital-digest or a host of other sites that have the download?

    What exactly is leffster.se?
