Your movie may not have decrypted properly. Do you have the latest version of DVDFab or AnyDVD to try ripping the movie again? This would be the first thing I'd try. You could also try running the movie through FixVTS before processing.
And here is a completely different tack. Since you don't seem to need the original menus, you can try this in AVStoDVD. It is free to download and use, and it can make use of the HC encoder also. Set it up for your area (NTSC or PAL format) and set it to use the HC encoder in a 2 pass configuration.
I'd use PGCDemux to remove the audio, video and subtitle streams from the original movie. Make sure to select all three types of streams for demuxing. Import the .m2v video file into AVStoDVD (using the green + sign on the right side of the main window in AVStoDVD). Right click on this video file within the AVStoDVD main window and you'll get options to import the audio and subtitle streams.
Set your output size to DVD-5 and start encoding. -
Normally you would select the VTS_01_0.IFO file as input for PGCDemux, but your dvd seems to be fubared in its structure. You might have to wait for someone really familiar with PGCEdit to show up with more suggestions, or wait and re-rip the dvd.
It is possible to import most dvds straight into AVStoDVD, but I've had better luck using elementary streams, which is why I advised using PGCDemux. You can try going straight into AVStoDVD and let it index the video, but I'm not sure it will help matters. Unfortunately, that process uses the same IFO file. Hmm.
The other ways of importing dvds into AVStoDVD involve merging the vob files, or turning them into mpeg2. VobMerge and Vob2mpg are two programs for this.
I think I'd try merging the vobs into one big file, then check playback at the problem area in VLC before proceeding any further.Last edited by Kerry56; 14th Aug 2013 at 19:39.

You could try running your rip through DVDShrink. Reauthor main movie and save with *NO* compression.
It's been quite a while since I've dealt with DVDs, but the above sometimes worked when a rip was screwed somehow due to bogus titlesets, etc, from copy protection. Shrink would remap it. Worth a shot.Pull! Bang! Darn!
