not too long ago i downloaded mpc-hc, but not sure i installed it or it played as-is. anyway. i am working on gui and was trying to play an encode i made when it popped this message:

i donloaded the latest per the link (menu\help\home page) and attempted to install, but it wants service pack 3, which i will NOT install. i had a lot of trouble with it in the past and it took a while to uninstall it. is there another download that has it that i can install w/out sp3 or better yet, has anyone a modified version that works no matter what ?

also, as it turns out, it displays this message for all the videos i try to play.

    thank you, in advance.

    Try the following
( warning, I don't know if this will work or won't work, play at your own risk ):

open the installer with 7-Zip (or w/ Universal Extractor, as a last resource),
    and unpack the contents to a separate folder;
locate the file DXSETUP.EXE and run it, *perhaps* it doesn't check if SP3 is installed

  3. You might try MPC-BE. Very similar to MPC-HC, and it is a little more forgiving, There's a portable version available.

[EDIT] I see El Heggunte recommended pretty much the above fix to a user (in the MPC-BE comments section ) who had your same problem on Win7. And evidently it works. Anyway, I think MPC-BE is a better player than MPC-HC.

    Good luck.

    .bss
    .data
    .idata
    .itext
    .rdata
    .text
    .tls

    Do you have 7-zip 9.20 ?????

    I have right-clicked the damn "directx_Jun2010_redist.exe", and 7-Zip shows

1 zillion cab files, 2 DLLs and 1 EXE.

    (resolved)

the suggestion for versions 9.22 and 9.20 did not work.

however, thanks to fritzi93, mpc-be worked. it only popped the message once, but subsiquent file loads no longer show that message. i will stick with mpc-be since it works well. i guess tomorrow i will know if it truely worked or is something that occurs only once upon initial startup of every fresh bootup. or, maybe it needed to create a special file or register in the registry once. i don't know. anyway. i can live with that if that turns out to be the case. otherwise, i hope it was resolved.

OK, you'll use MPC-BE, but I'd like to explain why 7-Zip didn't work for you ---

--- the installer you downloaded today is different from the installer I downloaded 3 years ago

This new type of compression (still) fools even the Universal Extractor, which then will call the 7z DLL and will show the same garbage as 7-zip

  11. Well, I hope that's the end of those error messages. Too bad the fix didn't work, though.

  12. So has 7zip compression changed a bit over time? I wondered why my old version of WinRAR wouldn't extract the odd 7zip file and I've had to download 7zip.

Speaking of which..... and sorry to wonder off topic a little.... what am I missing when it comes to 7zip? After installing it and compressed several folders containing various files into a 7zip file, I then repeated the process using WinRAR to compress to both RAR and ZIP.
7zip failed to produce a single archive which wasn't a little larger than both the RAR and ZIP versions.

    ot is fine by me.

Well, I hope that's the end of those error messages.
yes, confirmed..it worked out..no error message. it only comes up when i open *any* video files in mpc-hc.

mpc-be is working out well. but as i vaguely mentioned earlier, i am also working on a basic player of my own through dspack for delphi. but i wish i had some nicer looking UI controls and not the older boring ones that come with delphi. i did purchase the nextgrid suite a couple of years ago, the grid is ok and comes with a couple of nicer controls but not much i can do to polish up my gui's a little better. if i could find some good quality controls i'd buy them. oh well.
