  1. HI all,

I've searched all over the site and the forums for answers to my questions re: using Nero to burn VCDs and haven't seen the answers to the below, so hope y'all can help me out. First off, I used the guide on this site and have successfully burnt (burned?) VCDs with Nero 5 which play in my Sony DVD player. However, here are my outstanding issues:

    * For some of the divx files, they play fine using windows media player and divx player 2.0 alpha, but when I preview them in Nero before burning to VCD, the audio is out of sync and there is pixelation and darker parts of the video look terrible. Nero also burns them in non letterbox format, but frankly that's not a HUGE deal to me if I can fix the audio/pixelation stuff. HELP!

    * Yes, I made sure that I don't have the Angelpotion video codec installed as I read on here that it causes the picture to go purple.

Thanks to anyone who has any advice!!!

  2. Never use Nero to Encode anything the quality will be terrible, only use it to burn. I encode my Divx .Avi's using TMPEnc (Free Download), it will encode your Divx .Avi to an Mpeg & then you can burn it to VCD format using Nero 5.5, works Great!! I do this all the time & the VCD quality is fantastic, the VCD's play great on my DVD Player.

P.S. - I used Nero 5.5 to encode one .Avi to Mpeg, then burned it & watched it, looked like I was looking thru a dirty pane of glass.

  3. Problem solved!!!!!

Thank you much -- added advantage of using TMPGE is that if the burn fails, you still have the encoded file which you can then burn again... if Nero encodes, the temporary encoded file (5 hours worth of encoding) is gone if the burn crashes.

Thanks for your help! This tip should be added to the official guide on this site as it's a pretty important step to omit.

Yes, TMPEnc will encode your .Avi to an Mpeg File (Mpegs are much larger) & you can then go to Nero to make the Burn. The Neat thing as you mentioned is that TMPEnc will preserve the old .Avi file, I take that file & burn a archive file onto a CD-R using Nero to burn a data file, you can fit 3-4 .Avi movies onto one CD-R, that way you keep your Hard Drive clean & can Email the .Avi to your buddy if he want the movie.
    -Good Luck-

P.S. - If the current version of TPMEnc spits any of your .Avi files out, use TMPEnc 12a, it will eat anything!
