This might be getting a bit dirty, but you could look at getting a cheap projector off ebay (with a radial rather than drum shutter) and then chopping blades off so that only the frame-advance is blanked by the shutter. I can't remember offhand how many blades 8mm projectors have, probably two or three. I know my 35mm projector has three for 24fps and I swap it out for a two-bladed one for 16fps silents.

  2. Thanks again guys for all your help, much appreciated. I ended up finding out my projector does have an adjustable speed function on another button and chose the 20 fps, the flicker is reduced by 98%+ its almost perfect very very minimal to non existent.

Thanks again guys, you made this project worthwhile and have helped me a great deal. I got my money back from the transfer place. After naming some of the many things wrong with the transfer and saying last of all "" its been transferred to vhs before being put on dvd""" he moved and got my refund real quick. Showed me that even though they were outsourcing to a third party, they did know the transfers were inferior.

Only one question I have remaining to make the transfers perfect. If I crop the video (that is 4:3 because 16:9 I would lose some of the video on zooming) when it is displayed on my hdtv, would I lose some quality stretching the video so to speak and if so, is it better to just play it 4:3?

    Kind regards,

    Matt
