I connected my Sony DCR TRV460 to Kworld ( using Svideo to SVideo cable) and Kworld to USB 2 in my HP Windows 7 laptop (Windows 7 Home prem 64 bit)
and when using Power Director -> Capture -> ...software doesn't see my camcorder, so can't capture the video.
    I updated USB 2860 driver
also downloaded updates to Power Director 7 .
When Power Dir is searching for attached devices I see the green light on Kworld turning green for a second or two, and that's it.
    Any help will be appreciated

    Welcome TJP

Capture software has no idea whats connected to the other end of kworld capture device ... this is why it cannot see it.

In generally, connect camera to capture device via s-video, tell camera playback output via s-video if needed ... capture software connects to capture device ... either usb or s-video as input, depends on device setup.

You did install the kworld capture drivers ?

BJS, thank you for your input. Kworld device came with 2 CD's
    1. Kworld Driver, User Manual and Utilities
    2. Cyberlink Power Director 7 and Media Expresso 6.5
I inserted them and installed "something" I checked Computer->Properties-> Device Manager and under "Sound, video and game controllers: I saw USB 2860 driver (that what the other forum suggested to check) but now (after updating the driver it's gone)

I also "Cyberlink WebCam Virtual Driver" - is this it?

Should the video camera be ON in the "Play" position, but not running? Needless to say, these are Hi8 video tapes.

  4. Turn on the camcorder hit play and use the capture from TV button in Power Director 7.

Thank you, just tried that...Power Director creates CAPTURE.mpg file but it's empty...I see Camcorder playing the tape, and Kworld green light is on, checked the S-Video connections - but no picture in Capture(1).mpg, Capture(2).mpg, etc..

  6. You should see the camcorder video playing in the capture window as it is capturing. If you only get a black window you could try the capture from PC camera button. You mentioned the USB 2860 driver disappeared after you upgraded Power Director. Often the software that's supplied with capture devices is a modified version. You should uninstall Power Director and re-install the one that came with the device.

On a side note, check if your PC has a Firewire or IEEE1394 port. If it does, get a Firewire cable to match the camera and PC and use the capture from DV button. If you don't have a port it wouldn't cost much to add one and you would get better results.

Nick, Thank you very much! You are absolutely right, the capturing window was black - did not see the picture. My USB 2860 driver is back.
The PC camera seems to work although the movements are very slow and no sound (My Skype is working just fine) In any way, I was able to capture myself from the Webcam.

As far as fire wire, I have it and I was successful with it when I had my old Thinkpad T21 which had fire wire entry. HP Pawillion laptop has only USB entries and I do not feel comfortable to open it and try to put a new card...

I asked in the stores for Firewire to USB connection - but was told there is no such thing...
But again, I thank you and appreciate any ideas...

  8. It may be a case of Win7 incompatible driver, see if you can get a Win7 64 bit driver from Kworld (stay away from places like driverguide...)

  10. That sucks. I should add, if you can`t find a Win7 x64 driver try Vista x64.
