Hi, I am searching for software that can perform video screen capture in Windows 7 with HD resolution, fps and quality settings, AND can be programmed to record per a schedule. Any suggestions off the cuff? Does not need to be freeware necessarily.

I did check the software list for Screenshots but none mention scheduling. Thanks.

  2. Off the cuff? Perhaps use Windows Task Scheduler to start something like Debut (that can be set to start capturing at program start) combined with a schedule for Taskkill to end the program?

Wow@@ That looks like a great program. I was chatting with Applian and they pushed me to their sister software, WM Capture, saying that it had the scheduler. Turns out they both do! Trying to determine the differences. Is it that Replay Video Capture appears to be limited to DVD quality? I will be copying an HD security camera video feed so I plan to cut the FPS way back to save space and keep the image quality up. I am no video expert but WD Capture doesn't actually say "HD" anywhere. Not clear as to their differences. That may take a while.

Great suggestions. THANKS!!! I will contact Applian tomorrow and get all my questions answered and will report back. Both are same price- $40.

Well, I emailed back and forth with Applian. I am hoping that you can shed a little light on something. Applian was not very helpful.

My goal is to record about 1/2 of the screen in at least very good quality for 12 hours at a time (I do not jest). Obviously I need to greatly reduce file size while keeping quality up-ish. The settings window gives various options for bitrate, fps, and video format. As far as file size goes, I hope to drop the fps to 3 or 4 but am hoping you folks can assist in my saving a lot of grasping-in-the-dark-time regarding good ranges for bitrate and formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (AVI), WMV and DVD. Thanks!!

a screen capture is what you need, give camstudio a try. i don't know about the scheduling part. but you did say 3 to 4 frame/sec, for 12 hours, so i guess you could just start it and leave.

also, virtualdub (vdub) has screen capture capatilities too. set the (menu\device\screen capture) and open your security camera in video mode, go into vdub, (menu\video\source) and make necessary changes, set vdub capture dimension to 1280/720 or 1920/1080 or whatever size necessary, then choose the compression codec of your choice in vdub, then press F2 and give a folder/filename.avi, then set the (fps) frame rate in vdub, then press F5 to begin capturing, and then point your mouse to the other video windows playing the security camera feed. when finished, go back to vdub (select its window) and press the ESC key to stop the capture. then just open the file.avi in another vdub and review it. use v1.9.11 or above for all this.

if the capture software does not show up in vdub's capture window (may be a black screen due to overlay mode) then, you will need to force it into 'preview' mode, if possible. otherwise, you will have to close down the security camera window completely, then open another player window of your choice and play something in it (and minimize it) while you restart your security camera window, then see if you see a video in vdub's capture window. if you do, then proceed to capture.
