With simple "video stuff" being second nature to many of us, are there things that we easily do on a PC that you cannot do....or is virtually impossible to do on a Mac?
Just curious. I'm worried enough about upgrading to Windows 7 or 8, I'd never switch to Mac as long as I'm still doing "video stuff".

Now there's a topic guaranteed to start WW3
Jus imagine the Macobytes coming on and claiming they have no problems since they only use 'Real Software' -
Sure e.g. ffmpeg or ffmpeg based tools (e.g. iffmpeg) makes it possible to do many things on a Mac
LOL , I can see this thread degenerate very quickly into Mac Attack bashing...
It's not *that* bad. There are many Mac alternatives, or workarounds to do things you normally do on a PC
But I would say the biggest things "missing" is avisynth processing - the whole framework, filters, functions, workflow are incredibly useful for video related things -
btw. like on linux avisynth should be possible through wine (Vapoursynth and avxsynth are both also interessting)

I appreciate interest but....I don't give a shit about linux or wine or whether this turns into a Mac Bashing Fest.
Knowing what a Mac can and cannot do compared to a PC is what VideoHelp SHOULD be all about.
A list would be nice. Complexities/differences between Mac and PC for basic video related procedures would be nice. -
Having been there I can say you can do pretty much all the things a PC does with a Mac, BUT it's gonna take you more time (on account of all the workarounds) and cost you more money (on account that apple doesn't have native support for many things).
A good example is trying to import DVD footage; you must have a firewire connection to your camcorder. Sure there are workarounds for ripped discs, but they are time consuming and require converting to an intermediate format. Actually, even importing through firewire is time consuming.
Want to capture video, you have to get a Mac compatible capture device at double the price. Well that's not really true, you can use PC devices, but you need to get capture software from elgato and this is why the price is higher. Same with bluray, to this day osx has no support for it so you have to rely on third party vendors. Okay, FCPx has support for bluray, but you're still looking for a compatible external bluray burner and you're paying for the privilege of using FCP every year. For any serious video work you should be looking at FCP anyway.
