  1. A friend had another friend videotape their son in school sports. This other friend provided the video files in the Sony MODD format before leaving on vacation. Now my friend is asking me to convert them so he can watch them. Everything I can find says you have to have the sony camcorder AND the Sony software to convert.

I have tried installing the Sony software, but it stalls when I can't connect the Sony camcorder.

I tried using several third party programs that claim to be able to convert any/all files and NONE of them worked. They can't open the MODD files. Some of the files I tried were aiseesofy mod-video-converter, Axara Video studio, Squared5 StreamClip and several others. The big issue seems to be they interpret MODD as the same as MOD, but the actual program can't open the file.

Can anyone suggest a solution that would allow me to open and convert these files without having the actual camera?

if you only have .modd files you don't have any video files at all. the .modd files only contain time/date data for the real video files which should be .m2ts or similar.
