Hi!
Since my firewire output on my HV30 seems to be broken Im know investigating other possible solutions to transfer. Im using Mac OS X 10.7.5, 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7. http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD318LL/A/refurbished-macbook-pro-22ghz-quad-core-intel-i7
Since it works to output the image from the HDMI output Im thinking of buying something to transfer signal to the usb or firewire input in my mac.
My questions:
1) which would be the best and cheapest solution?
2) does the hdmi also contain audio? (think its only image), otherwise, how do I transfer the audio?
3) is it possible to use the thunderbolt i/o in my mac and just use HDMI->thunderbolt? can this be just a cable? (think thunderbolt is input as well?
4) found these two:
http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/ultrastudiothunderbolt (thinking of UltraStudio Mini Recorder?)
or from here:
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/webstore2/webstore-main_hardware.html
5) any more suggestions?
which would be correct for my purpose to capture from hdmi output on HV30 to Final cut in Macbook and in that way bypass the output from the broken firewire in my HV30
thanks

I know that the Hauppauge units can work on Mac with third-party software, but from a very brief look at the website it looks like they only support PC themselves. Bleeding-edge Thunderbolt with huge files is a headache you probably don't want.
I think this is your easiest solution: http://www.elgato.com/gaming/game-capture-hd
HDMI does contain audio.
Know that your footage will be re-compressed to H.264 by either the Elgato or the Hauppauge, with an associated quality loss from this generational step. Your recordings will also be locked into 1920x1080 at the quality of the camera's internal upscaler instead of the original 1440x1080 resolution, which should be a much smaller concern.
