Samsung BD-D5300 Region Free/Unlock Help needed!

Hi,

I have a Samsung BD-D5300 Blu Ray player (purchased around a year ago). I need to play some region 2 DVDs on this but they won't play. I have not updated any firmware or software on this player. The remote control is model AK59-00113a I believe.

Can anyone help me unlock this player so it plays multi-region DVD discs?

So far I have tried (without success) the method where you press "return" on the remote then enter the region code (57538) then press 9 for multi-region but this doesn't work (I don't get any region information appear on the screen either).

if none of these work then you might be out of luck as not every dvd/bluray player can be made region free.

Hi, yes I tried that. When i press "return" and enter the region code for region 2 (57538) nothing appears on the screen like it suggests in those instructions.

MOST Samsung and Sony DVD and BD players in the world CANNOT EVER BE UNLOCKED. Period.

If you buy Samsung or Sony, you do so with the willingness to live with the player if you can't unlock it, which is usually what happens. If you really want region free, do NOT buy Samsung or Sony.

Samsung probably made a firmware change since the instructions came out that breaks the hack. This happens all the time. I suppose you can try to find an old firmware and see if it's possible to install it, but some players won't let you downgrade firmware and it may be quite difficult to find an old firmware anyway as Samsung probably won't have them available on their website.

I really do not understand why your location is the UK and you say that the player can't play region 2 DVDs. Where did you buy it? If you bought it in the USA or Canada then it will be essentially impossible to unlock it. If you bought it in Australia then you can try my firmware downgrade suggestion (no promises it can be done though). If you bought this in the UK and it won't play region 2 DVDs then it is defective and should be taken back for a refund.

I just got my Samsung BD-C5300 that I bought off of ebay and had no luck with unlocking it ... though the last posting in the "Hacks list" regarding this player was from Dec 2012. I don't know what I am doing wrong but I don't get the number on the top left of the screen, after doing the REPEAT 57538 thingy.

Living in denial will not get this unlocked. My post above yours explains your situation, particularly the 3rd paragraph.

You buy Samsung and Sony, then you agree to live with the reality that they will probably never be unlocked.

Obviously you didn't read my post, especially the part with the "Dec 2012" in it ... that's what I was wondering. How someone could unlock his player then but I can't do so now .. as there were NO firmware updates till then!

Just extract with makemkv and burn as data and watch that way,no need to re-encode.

Not quite true,for I have a Sony Blu Ray player witch I was able to patch to all region on the DVD side following hint here.
