It's almost time to replace the old TV with a new one.....and I mean OLD. It has two SCART connections and the cable TV connection....THAT'S IT!
I know SQUAT about new TVs but I know I don't want/need 3D.
Is there a brand or even a type of TV that you have or noticed to have a boatload of inputs?
Sure European TVs will still have SCART and several HDMI connections....how about one that has at least one of each of the old fashioned() RCA/Cinch plus varieties as well?
Every time I see a normal, human-sized TV at a good price, it has CRAP input possibilities.
Yea I know it's a dumb question but I have to ask.

I suppose it comes down to your budget.
My 32" Sony (not so old) have 2xscart,4xhdmi,composite,component and d-sub. Later models for the UK also have i-player (BBC) -
Just look carefully as to whether or not it has component inputs. It seems like that is one they will easily leave off a lower end model. But then again if you don't have anything with component outputs that won't matter to you. (though if you happen to have a WII and not a WII U your highest quality output is component out to get a measely 480p).

My son has a plethora of Nintendo consoles. He inherited two antiques, and he has a Wii.

In the US at least there has been a decline in the amount of TVs with s-video inputs. Also some TVs have started combining the composite and component inputs into one set of connectors.

The number of analog inputs on TVs from the big names in the consumer electronics industry has declined significantly in the past three years. I suppose it reduces manufacturing costs, and most consumers don't have much need or desire to use them anymore. From what I have seen, TVs from minor brands may include more analog inputs, but have fewer HDMI ports. You may have to look for an older, discontinued model to have what you are looking for.
I bought a new 32-inch TV last year and none of the big names had models with S-Video, but most TVs had one set of RCA component video input plus one or more RCA composite inputs plus VGA. This spring I shopped for a small TV for my mother to use in her bedroom. Most of the TVs I looked at had one combo component/composite video input, no VGA port, no headphone jack and a reduced number of HDMI ports. Larger TVs had more HDMI ports than smaller ones, and were somewhat more likely to have a VGA port, but did not include more analog inputs. -
Strangely, the old Scart socket (in RGB mode) gives a really good picture in SD. Comparible to Component, though Component has the bandwidth to do HD too..
Modern (i.e. Hollywood compromised) TV's have lots of HDMI (DRM) connections, but you'd have to specify what kinds of connections you want, and your price range to get sensible recommendations -
I was lucky enough to find an LG 47" LED last summer with 4 HDMI inputs and two Component inputs.

My vote would go on European spec LG too. My LS series has 4 x HDMI, Component, Composite (although not at the same time), SCART, PC and 3 x USB.

The newest lg tvs have only hdmi imputs and coax and nothing else with the exception of usb, look for an older model that's on clearance sale.

There are reverse models that handle sd to hdmi converisons.
You'll have to read up heavily on which units actually work of course.
But should your efforts on finding a tv with enough inputs hits a brick wall this might be a worthy alternative. Unfortunately it means another black box in your entertainment center but at least it means your "legacy" devices will still be useable.
Just search amazon or ebay for rca to hdmi or svideo to hdmi and you'll get tons of hits. Of course read the reviews carefully. I don't know if there are any "name brand" units but I would tend to think the more expensive units should have better quality, one would hope.
Good luck.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Getting an older model is better and easier because they have composite, component and analogue audio out and are usually 1/2 the price of new models.
