Hi, sorry if this was answer before but:
Is there any advantage making a xvcd at 720x480 instead of 320x240 at the same CBR?
and please, if you can, explain in detail.
TIA.
1- my standalone player can play this xvcd resultion (720x480)
2- im almost of the time a 2000 cbr

The advantages of the higher resolution should be pretty obvious (more detail/clarity etc) but there are some disadvantages to using this resolution.
The first is that VCDs are specified at 352x276 for PAL and 320x240 for NTSC.. anything else is instandard. Therefore a 720x480 XVCD stands a (pretty big) chance that it won't play on your/my DVD player.
Secondly, 720x480 requires a far higher bitrate to maintain quality so if you are using a low CBR value then the video will fall apart very quickly as soon as there is movement on the screen.
The CBR bitrate value required to provide a watchable 720x480 MPEG-1 VCD is likely to be pretty high (I guess at least 3500kbps) and your DVD player may not be able to physically sustain this read speed - making the video stop and start. -
Hi:
I use the exact same specifications that are in the XVCD guide on this site, for my XVCD's. The video comes out fantastic, and there are no problems playing these CDs with my Toshiba 3370 DVD Player.
2500 kbps
720X480
TMPGEnc 2.53
Of course, if your source video is not so good, then the results will be accordingly. Also, it may be that my Toshiba Player IS able to handle such bit rates and resolution, while other players may not be able to. -

Are you talking about CBR at 2500
That won't give you much time per CD. I have found the better comprimise for me was
XVCD
VBR High 2500
Ave 1800
MIn 1100
Res 480 X 480
This gives me about 50 min on a 800 CD
or 45 min on a 750 CD
My player plays this quite well
