  1. I have a harddrive full of movies and just checkdisked it on windows, even though the videos seem to be running okay i have'nt tested them all so I was wondering do you think checkdisk can corrupt videos? and if it can would it be noticeable or just tiny glitches in the video , please explain.

  3. Not as such, what happened is I scanned two harddrives full of videos, first time I scanned one it came clean no errors, second time clean, third time it got up to 70% then the box disapeared, and on my other computer it says file system error please repair, the other harddrive scans but without any percentage or text shown, the progress bar gets to the end and then it just freezes, I can still access other files on the pc just can't do anything with the scan even cancel it, i leave it like this for a while then have reset the pc. So I don't know what damage its done there.

The videos seem fine but with the odd glitch, I don't even know if that how they were before the scan coz I did'nt watch them before the scan, anyway if the scan had messed up the files would'nt it just of deleted them or completely corrupted them? do you know any drivescanners that work like checkdisk only better or same and won't effect the files only analyze them.

I would take it offline and run a complete, thorough Spinrite pass (or 2) on it first.

Ah yes, another search challenged member. As a wise man once said - Google is your friend.

While I'm unwilling to do your work for you, we actually have a lot of members here who simply cannot live without doing this kind of thing for new members, so sit tight and sooner or later one of them will be along to do the search for you, give you a link, and answer every possible question you could ever think of about it. But Cornucopia isn't one those idiots so it won't be him.

Probably the data corruption is caused not by chkdsk.exe, but by the USB-to-IDE/SATA adapter itself.

Most likely possibility. Or power supply instability.

Or the drive is simply failing. You do have a backup copy of anything important right? ANY hardware can fail at ANY time. If it's important, make a backup.

Having said that, I would start by testing the HDD using the drive manufacturers disk tools. The software disc is typically included with Retail HDD"s, or you can get the software from their website. Run the short and long test, if either test has errors or fails, the drive is faulty. If the drive tests good, then you will need to verify the file structure.
