Hi
I recently loaded up WIN XP home edition on a fresh hard disk. I am experiencing constant frame drops when trying to capture with ATI MMC 7.5 in all configurations and in Virtual Dub 1.9 in all configurations no matter the frame rates or changes in the disk I/O sections, even tried capturing without audio...tried all variations of codecs too. I have tried changing the buffering in VirtualDub, changing the fps, disabling audio during capture.
My system has a PIII 733Mhz Intel FPCG, 256MB of PC-133, Ultra ATA100 7200RPM Western Digital disk. Video card is the original AIW Pro, 8MB purchased in 1997. Using the All in Wonder Pro PCI driver from ATI that goes with MMC 7.2 Multimedia Center for windows XP. I have DirectX 8.1 installed
I have tried unloading all tasks and services that are running. Unloaded all DLLs' and still getting dropped frames like crazy. Tried tweaking the cache, changed the performance settings to get best performance, manually adjusted my swap file for max performance and still dropping frames.
Now get this....I change the video adapter to the "Rage Pro II+C and then I can capture fine..however I do not have TV out then. When I make this change I can capture no problem from MMC 7.5 beautifully. Even at 720x480 resolution. However, when I try to load up VirtualDub now...it says it cannot find the capture driver or capture device...it says it is in use by some other component like WEBTV or whatever. I go to look to see what is utilizing the driver and I dont see anything..and yes I did this with the MMC 7.5 closed and even the ATI.EXE icon in the try closed. I see no IRQ conflicts or sharing of the IRQ for the Video card.
Now when I switch back to using the All in Wonder Pro driver that worked before with Virtual Dub but dropped frames...VirtualDub still says it cannot use the capture driver because it is in use by another program. Can anyone help me with this Dilemma? PS...just something on the side...when I change the setting for capture in MMC 7.5 to capture AVI...it lists all the codecs on my system including Huffy and Divx 5.0 and everything. It acts like it lets me select the mode of compression in MMC, say for instance if I wanted to capture AVI with DIVX 5.0 compression, Lets me change the Horizontal resolution all the way up to 720 but Vertical resolution max is 240. No big deal....then I start capturing...after I capture...it appears that the compression is not being used even though MMC lets me select them. The file remains large. Verified this by recompressing the AVI in VirtualDub with DIVX 5.0 and the file size dropped by 10 fold - 78MB down to 7.8MB. So I know the compression is not working. Another thing too....I have MMC 7.6....anyone know if it would be detrimental if I loaded this up....is worth the risk of blowing the setup that I have right now.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated.
